RideAmigos currently provides regional web portals for commuters to find and evaluate ground transportation options with a focus on recurring commutes. As one of RideAmigos' clients, iGoladera wants to provide this service as a way to improve the commuting experience and reduce the number of vehicles on the road – reducing traffic congestion and pollution. In this design project, our team was hypothetically hired by RideAmigos senior management for a limited engagement to help modify or redesign the interface to improve their product’s effectiveness.
In a practical sense, we needed to to promote behavior change around increased adoption of alternative modes of transportation, which include any modes of transportation other than single occupant cars. In the early stage of our design process, based on the insights we gathered from several informal interviews, we proposed the core of our design as motivating people to engage in an accessible commuting experience by facilitating accessibility of the alternate modes of transportation among people and making it more collaborative.
On our way to achieve the core, we believed that transforming the existing desktop service into mobile version could encourage people to explore, discover and share on the go. While I was composing a commuting story for our persona - Amy, Yizhou and Manali were modifying the interface and doing relevant research for the justification of our concept. Interactive high fidelity prototype was used for usability testing at last.
